How the ConnectWise integration works

ConnectWise is good at scripting, automation, and remote management. It does not give you compliance evidence for CMMC 2.0 or NIST CSF, it does not detect Microsoft 365 or Google Workspace breaches, and it does not run an indicator-of-compromise hunt for ransomware staging tools. Lavawall® fills those gaps and deploys through the ConnectWise tools you already run.

For a single company, you copy an install script from the Lavawall® console and run it through a PowerShell or script action in ConnectWise RMM or ConnectWise Automate. For many companies, you set an LWcompanycode variable per company and use the ConnectWise version of the script that references @Company.LWcompanycode@. ConnectWise substitutes the right code for each company at run time, so one script installs the correct agent into each tenant.

What data flows

Once the agent is installed through ConnectWise, Lavawall® collects and correlates:

  • Endpoint state across Windows, macOS, and Linux: patch status, configuration posture, application inventory, and hardware health.
  • Cloud signals from Microsoft 365, Entra ID, Azure, and Google Workspace, pulled directly from those tenants.
  • Compliance evidence mapped to 15+ frameworks, updated in real time as the fleet changes.
  • Security findings from configuration assessment, ransomware indicator hunting, and AV or EDR correlation.

Lavawall® reads directly from the endpoint and the cloud tenants, so your coverage is not limited to what ConnectWise happens to inventory.

Setup steps

Single company

  1. In the Lavawall® console, click Computers.
  2. Click Download/Add.
  3. Select the company from the Companies drop-down.
  4. Click the script (shown in red) for Windows, macOS, or Linux, and copy it.
  5. In ConnectWise RMM or Automate, paste the script into a PowerShell or script action and run it against the target devices.

Multiple companies

  1. Scroll to the ConnectWise section (Windows, macOS, Linux options) in the Lavawall® console.
  2. Set the LWcompanycode variable for each company in ConnectWise RMM or Automate. The console shows the code for each company when you pick it from the drop-down.
  3. Copy the ConnectWise script (shown in red) into a PowerShell or script action.
  4. The @Company.LWcompanycode@ variable is substituted automatically for each company, so one script serves them all.

Thinking about switching?

You do not have to choose. Most MSPs run ConnectWise and Lavawall® together, with ConnectWise handling scripting and remote management and Lavawall® handling security, GRC, breach detection, and analytics. If you are weighing a full move off ConnectWise Automate, the Lavawall® alternative to ConnectWise Automate page lays out where each tool fits.

Frequently asked

Does Lavawall® work with ConnectWise RMM and ConnectWise Automate?
Yes, both. Lavawall® deploys through ConnectWise RMM and ConnectWise Automate using a PowerShell or script action. For multi-company rollouts, a per-company variable lets a single script serve every client without editing the script by hand.
How does the per-company variable work?
You set an LWcompanycode variable for each company in ConnectWise, and the Lavawall® script references it as @Company.LWcompanycode@. When the script runs, ConnectWise substitutes the correct code for each company automatically, so one script installs the right agent into the right tenant every time.
Does Lavawall® replace ConnectWise Automate?
It does not have to. Many MSPs keep ConnectWise Automate for scripting and remote management and let Lavawall® add security, GRC, breach detection, and analytics. If you are weighing a full switch, the ConnectWise Automate comparison page walks through where each tool fits.
What does Lavawall® add on top of ConnectWise?
Cross-platform patching for 7,500+ applications, 15+ GRC frameworks, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace breach detection, SaaS and shadow-AI discovery, application control without a kernel driver, replacement analytics, and optional per-named-agent helpdesk and remote support, all multi-tenant.
