Lavawall Backup

Back up the mailboxes, files, computers, and servers you already manage.

Lavawall® Backup protects Microsoft 365, Google Workspace, Windows computers, and Linux servers from the same console as your monitoring, patching, and compliance. Check that every account was backed up completely, and restore to the same account, another account, another organization, or from Google to Microsoft and back.

What it backs up

Microsoft 365

Mail, OneDrive, Calendar, and Contacts, for people and for shared mailboxes. SharePoint sites. Teams chats, and Teams channels with their messages and files. Your Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune settings, saved as readable files.

Google Workspace

Gmail, Drive, shared drives, Calendar, Contacts, and Tasks. Google Chat spaces, group chats, and direct messages, including the chat of Google Meet meetings. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides are kept as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.

Windows computers

Folders, whole drives, or the whole computer, with open and locked files included. SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases. Each computer encrypts its own backup before anything leaves it, with a key only that computer and your recovery keys can open.

Linux servers

Files and folders, with the same restore points, search, and restore tools as everything else.

Mail, calendars, and contacts are kept in standard formats (.eml, .ics, and .vcf), so they can be restored into either service, or downloaded and opened in common mail and calendar apps. See exactly what is backed up.

Know that every account is protected

A backup that skipped a few items is not a backup you can count on. Every Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace account shows whether its last backup finished with nothing missed.

  • Up to date, partly backed up, or needs attention, for every account
  • Missed items retried on every backup
  • New people backed up as they are added
  • Departed employees’ backups kept and restorable
  • Alerts when a backup looks like ransomware at work
  • Notifications before storage is full

Backups run three times a day by default, or on the schedule you choose, and each run sends only what changed.

Restore where you need it

The same account, another account, or another organization

Restore a whole account, one folder, or a few files you found by searching. Restoring into someone else’s account puts everything in a folder named after the original account and the date, so nothing mixes with their own mail and files. Restores only add: nothing that is already there is overwritten.

From Google Workspace to Microsoft 365, or the reverse

Deliver a Google backup into Microsoft 365, or a Microsoft 365 backup into Google Workspace. Mail keeps its folders, Gmail labels become folders, and calendars, contacts, and files move with it. Map many people at once for a whole move.

Download in the format you need

Mail as .eml or one .mbox file per folder, calendars as .ics, contacts as .vcf, and files as they were, in a ZIP or saved straight to a folder on one of your servers. Large downloads are split into parts and resume if the connection drops.

Files back on a computer

Pick a backed-up folder and a time, tick the files, and restore them into a new folder on the computer, where nothing existing changes, or to their original location.

Computer backups that stay out of the way

People notice backups when a video call stutters. Endpoint Backup is built so they don’t.

  • Back up only while nobody is using the computer
  • Pause during calls and while the camera is on
  • Wait while on battery
  • Upload limit for slow connections
  • Up to three backup periods a day, or every few hours
  • Only the changed parts of files are sent

Choose how far back you can restore, from 90 days to 7 years or with no limit, and set a size limit for each computer. How Endpoint Backup works.

Kept in Canada, or in your own bucket

Backups are kept in Lavawall storage in Canada by default. If you would rather own the storage, keep computer backups in your own bucket at Amazon S3, Wasabi, OVHcloud, The Object Store, or another S3-compatible provider, for every computer or only some. The access key for your bucket is locked in your browser, or kept in the Lavawall Vault, before it is saved. MSPs can choose the bucket for each client, and let child companies use a bucket the MSP owns.

You can copy backups to another bucket, check every object, and switch over when you are ready. The original is never deleted by the copy. How backup storage works.

Capacity is counted by the size of the newest complete backup of each account, site, server, or computer, so keeping restore points for longer does not use it up. When storage is full, new backups pause, while restores and downloads keep working and nothing is deleted.

Part of the platform you already use

Lavawall® is a multi-tenant RMM and remote support platform for MSPs and IT teams, with patching, security monitoring, Microsoft 365 and Google Workspace breach detection, and compliance built into the same agent and console. Backup adds to it: the same companies, the same notifications, and the same people and permissions. For tenant settings with alerts and rollback, see Microsoft 365, Entra, and Azure configuration backup. To export a whole Google Workspace to a drive you control, see Google Workspace export.

Common questions

What does Lavawall Backup protect?
Microsoft 365 (mail, OneDrive, SharePoint sites, Calendar, Contacts, shared mailboxes, Teams chats and channels, and your Microsoft 365, Entra ID, and Intune settings), Google Workspace (Gmail, Drive, shared drives, Calendar, Contacts, Tasks, and Google Chat), Windows computers (folders, whole drives, or the whole computer, plus SQL Server, MySQL, and PostgreSQL databases), and Linux servers.
Can Lavawall move a mailbox from Google Workspace to Microsoft 365?
Yes. Restore the account and deliver it to the other service. Mail keeps its folders, Gmail labels become folders, and calendars, contacts, and files move with it. Google Docs, Sheets, and Slides arrive as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint files.
Do computer backups get in the way of users?
No. You can back up only while nobody is using the computer, and backups pause during calls, while the camera is on, and on battery. Only the parts of files that changed are sent, and open files such as an Outlook data file are included.
Where are backups stored?
In Lavawall storage in Canada by default, or in your own S3-compatible bucket at Amazon S3, Wasabi, OVHcloud, The Object Store, or another provider. Computer backups are encrypted on the computer before they leave it.
What happens to a departed employee’s backups?
They are kept and can still be restored, for example into a manager’s mailbox in a folder of their own.
Does a restore overwrite existing mail or files?
No. Restores only add. Items already there are skipped, and a restored file whose name is taken is saved under a new name.
