What the page is for

Notify Computers is a page in the Lavawall® console, in the Administration area. Lavawall is the RMM, security, and compliance platform from ThreeShield, built and hosted in Canada.

Use it to send one desktop notification, the message that appears on the screen of a computer that runs the Lavawall agent, to many computers at once. It is the bulk version of the Notify button on a single computer.

The notification goes to the organization chosen in the company selector at the top of the page. There is no separate organization picker. You can send to your own organization or to the client organizations directly below it.

What you can do

  • See the organization’s computers in one list, with whether each is Online or Offline and its Last check-in.
  • Filter the list by name and select some or all of the computers.
  • Send a General notification, a request to close an application, or a restart notice.
  • Send now, or at a date and time you choose.
  • Choose reminder options for the user, or send a single notice with No reminder (a single notice).

How to use Notify Computers

How to notify many computers

  1. Choose the organization in the company selector at the top of the page. It can be your own organization or a client organization directly below it.
  2. In Computers, tick the computers that should show the notification. Type in Filter computers by name… to narrow the list, then use Select all (filtered), Select all or Clear.
  3. In Notification, pick a Type: General notification, Please close an application (for patching) or Restart required.
  4. Fill in the Title and Message. For an application notice, add the Application name. For a restart notice, add the Reason. A general notification can also carry a Link (https only).
  5. Under When to send, keep Send now (or when device comes online), or choose Send at a specific date/time (see below).
  6. Under Reminder options, choose how the user can be reminded, or choose No reminder (a single notice) to send one notice only.
  7. Click Send Notification, then Yes, send to confirm. Notification Queued! tells you it is on its way.

How to send at a set time

  1. Under When to send, choose Send at a specific date/time.
  2. Pick the Date & Time.
  3. Under Interpret time as, choose My local time (converted to UTC) or This device’s local time.
  4. Click Send Notification and confirm.

How to notify another organization

  1. Choose the other organization in the company selector at the top of the page. The page reloads.
  2. Pick the computers again and send as before.

Tips

  • Desktop notifications can only be sent to Windows computers. Other computers are listed but cannot be selected.
  • Your selection is kept while you filter the list.
  • Only computers that checked in during the last 30 days are listed. A computer that is offline receives the notification when it next connects.
  • Every send is recorded in the activity log.
  • If the list is long, a message says how many are shown. Use the filter to narrow it.
  • Super Admins and Admins can always send to many computers. Other people need the Notify many computers permission, which a Super Admin or Admin can give them.

Troubleshooting

"You do not have permission to notify many computers".
Ask a Super Admin or Admin of your organization to send the notification, or to give you the Notify many computers permission.
"Choose an organization".
Notifications can be sent to your own organization or to the client organizations directly below it. Choose one in the company selector at the top of the page.
"Computer management is not part of this subscription".
Desktop notifications are sent to computers that run the Lavawall agent, and that needs the Computer management part of your subscription.
"No computers were found for this organization".
No computer has checked in during the last 30 days. Check that the Lavawall agent is installed and the computers are on.
A computer is greyed out.
It is not a Windows computer, so a desktop notification cannot be sent to it.
"Choose at least one computer" or "Enter a title or message first".
Tick at least one computer and fill in the title or message before you click Send Notification.
