The Secureframe alternative for government and public sector

Public-sector buyers carry frameworks the commercial GRC tools treat as custom work, and usually several at once. Lavawall® ships the rest.

Secureframe is strong at the first audit. The trouble usually shows up in year two, when the evidence has quietly drifted from what the policies claim. Public-sector buyers carry frameworks the commercial GRC tools treat as custom work, and usually several at once. The buyer this page is written for is on more than one path at once, and that is where a single-track tool starts to strain.

A US city government

Police systems fall under CJIS, the assessor’s office handles federal tax information under IRS 1075, a cloud service needs GovRAMP, and every public-facing system owes ADA Title II.

Why Lavawall® fits here

It ships these frameworks pre-built. For public-sector buyers that means CJIS, IRS 1075, GovRAMP, ADA Title II, and state public-sector programs, with FIPS 140-3 where the rules require it. Because Lavawall® collects evidence from the system that runs the control rather than from a questionnaire, the console keeps matching reality after the first audit, instead of drifting away from it.

It is the platform, not a connector to one. Lavawall runs its own agent on your endpoints and its own connectors into Microsoft 365, Entra, Intune, and Google Workspace, so the evidence comes from the same system that runs the control.

Pricing, published

Secureframe publishes its numbers on AWS Marketplace as two line items: a platform fee, and a fee for the first framework.

Lavawall® Complete

$89.50 /seat/year

Annual, two months free. A seat is the greater of your managed devices or your Microsoft 365 / Google Workspace licensed users, never both.

Starts at $2,240/year for the first 25 seats, and every compliance framework in the catalogue is included, along with the business-continuity module, your policies, and a Trust Centre.

No per-framework fee: the whole catalogue is in Complete. Volume discounts start at 51 seats.

Secureframe

US$7,500 + US$7,500 first framework / year

Platform fee up to 100 employees, plus US$7,500 for the first framework, as published on Secureframe’s own AWS Marketplace listing (accessed 28 August 2026). Marketplace and direct pricing can differ.

The first framework is already US$15,000 all in, and each one after it is another line item.

A few scenarios

OrganizationAssumptionsLavawall / year
20-person BC health-tech 25 seats (the minimum), every framework it needs included $2,240
50-person services firm 50 seats, every framework included $4,475
250-seat organization 250 seats at the 5% volume tier, every framework included $21,256

Secureframe’s published entry is US$15,000 for the platform and one framework. Lavawall®’s $2,240 floor includes every framework.

For most of these buyers, though, the real alternative to Lavawall is not another compliance platform at all. It is a consultant at $15,000 to $40,000 and a spreadsheet, repeated every year, with nothing left behind between engagements. See the full pricing page for the calculator.

When Secureframe is the better choice

If you want a guided push to a first SOC 2 and you have the staff to manage drift yourself afterward, Secureframe is good at that initial sprint.

Frequently asked

Does Lavawall handle FIPS 140-3 for CJIS and IRS 1075?
For the authenticators, yes: the console can require FIPS 140-3 validated security keys for sign-in, checked against the NIST CMVP list. That is the advanced-authentication control, not a claim that data-in-transit encryption (CJIS control SC-13) is FIPS-validated, which is a property of your infrastructure. See the FIPS 140-3 support page.
How is Lavawall priced against Secureframe?
Secureframe is built around getting you to a first report. Lavawall is built to keep the evidence true in year two and beyond, because it reads live posture rather than stored answers.
